The origins of the present company date back to 1999 when Ruwa-Con was formed by Pieter Ruthven. Subsequently the then closed corporation was converted into a company (Pty) Ltd, resulting in the name being changed to Ruwacon in 2003.

The Rantsoareng family joined Ruwacon in 2010 successfully transforming the shareholding of Ruwacon to become one of the few 51% black owned 9GB / 9CE construction firms. Today, under the leadership of the Rantsoareng family, the company has an annual turnover in excess of R 1.1 Billion, employs a workforce of approximately 1100 workers and is engaged on approximately 50 active sites across South Africa.

Corporate Governance

Our rich history of achievement that dates back to 1999, is an indication of the proficiency that has always been part of Ruwacon’s management at various levels in the organisation. Valentine Rantsoareng is the Chief Executive Officer with Pieter Ruthven as Managing Director, Hansie Rheeder as Financial Director and Pretty Rantsoareng, the Marketing Director. Management at Ruwacon has irrefutably committed themselves to practice the Corporate Governance principles of integrity, respect and transparency.

These ethos forms the basis for managing all our operations, systems and structures, as well as our organisational culture. Management believes in a hands-on approach and our regional management structure ensures direct and regular management intervention at a site level. Transformation is driven at the highest level and pro-active measures are taken to ensure that Ruwacon comply with the BBBEE codes as stipulated by Government.

Valentine Rantsoreng

Board Chairperson , Chief Executive Officer

As shared owner of the Rantsoareng Hotel Group, Valentine has distinguished himself within the hospitality sector in that the group owns and successfully operates various hotels and lodges within the Free State province. His business acumen would greatly strengthen Ruwacon’s top management capacity in that Valentine is involved as a non-executive director, bringing with him vast experience gained as inter alia a director of First National Bank.

Pieter Ruthven

Managing Director (National Diploma: Civil Engineer)

Pieter commenced his career in 1992 at Murray & Roberts as a Civil Engineer Technician. He joined Stocks Civils in 1994 and was appointed Site Agent in 1995 for the Airport Runway rehabilitation project and the Free State Athletics track. He was promoted to Contracts Manager in 1996 for Stocks and Stocks and held the position of General Manager from 1997 to 1999 before he resigned to start his own company, Ruwacon. He has gained extensive construction experience over the years in areas such as bulk water supply, road maintenance and rehabilitation projects and in tendering for projects.

Palesa Pretty Rantsoareng

Marketing Director (Diploma in Education)

Palesa left the Education profession after 10 years of teaching. She has since acquired an array of business skills as owner of enterprises in the hospitality and construction industry. Palesa’s involvement with Ruwacon started in 2007 when her company, Promania, formed part of the Joint Venture for the upgrading of the Free State Stadium. She joined Ruwacon in May 2010 as Marketing Director.

Hansie Rheeder

Financial Director (B.Compt. Hons CA(SA), Advanced Certificate in Taxation and M. Comm. Forensic Accounting)

Hansie qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1998. He completed his articles at Coopers & Lybrand (today PWC). He joined the SA Revenue Services in 1999 as a Criminal Investigator. He served as the Regional Manager for the Audit & Criminal Investigation divisions for the Free State & Northern Cape between 2005 and 2008. He successfully completed the Advanced Certificate in Taxation (CERTAX) – (1999); Certificate in Criminal Justice & Forensic Auditing – (2000) and the M. Comm. Forensic Accounting (Cum Laude – 2009). He joined the Ruwacon group in October 2008 as Financial Manager.
