Eastern Cape Department of Health

ArrowBack to projects

The scope of the works for this project is the construction of a training College for students, a new Laundry, new Paediatric ward, new Helipad and new parking area. A student Centre was also added to the project.

The project is in the town of Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape Province, the biggest challenge on the project is the remote location of the project as this is a rural area. A lot of planning when in on this project to ensure that materials was on site in time.

Due to the geographical location of Lusikisiki the weather patterns are very unpredictable and the rainfall for this area is well over 1000mm.

The working environment is within a fully functional hospital, where there are always many patients and a lot of vehicular traffic. Most of the areas had to be hoarded to ensure controlled access to the construction site.

Access to the construction site was limited as the Laundry and the new Paediatric building are situated between buildings in a confined space, planning of the construction of these building were crucial as we had to do them in sections to ensure optimum access.

A permanent batch plant was erected for the duration of the contract for the Batching of concrete, material for the plant had to be imported from quarries’ as there are no local Quarry materials suited for the concrete.
